On August 6, 2024, the Department of Biochemistry and the Institution’s Innovative Council organized a guest lecture on “Quorum Sensing Inhibitory Potential of Natural Compounds.” The session aimed to enhance students’ scientific research skills related to natural compounds with biological significance. Guest speaker Dr. A. Annapoorani, Scientist D and Senior Programme Officer at the University of Madras, discussed the process of quorum sensing and identified potential quorum sensing inhibitors from natural sources to mitigate bacterial virulence. She highlighted research involving mangroves, marine sponges, and edible plants, utilizing both traditional methods and computer-aided drug discovery.

NSS ACTIVITYS

World Environment Day (09/06/2024)

On 9th June 2024, a programme was organized at Maraimalai Adigalar Government Higher Secondary School, Pallavaram, by Dr. D. Dev Anand, Secretary of the Annai Veilankanni Group of Institutions, and the NSS Unit to observe World Environment Day. The event focused on raising environmental awareness, with around 100 plants being planted on the school campus. The NSS Units I and II actively participated in cleaning the school, and students took an oath to protect the environment.

INDEPENDENCE DAY CELEBRATION (15/08/2024)

On August 15, 2024, the Independence Day celebration was held with Dr. S. Devaraj, Founder-Chairman, and Dr. M. Delphin Devaraj, Vice Chairman of Annai Veilankanni’s Group of Educational Institutions, presiding over the event. The ceremony began with a welcome note by Dr. V. Rathika, Principal, and the flag hoisting by the Chief Guest, Mr. Nandakumar, IRS, Commissioner of Income Tax, Department of Revenue, Ministry of Finance, Government of India. The event included the National Anthem, a March Past, and a cultural dance performance celebrating India’s rich heritage. The Chief Guest, emphasized unity, discipline, and the importance of contributing to society, inspiring the students to honor the sacrifices of freedom fighters.

Inauguration of NSS Special Camp 2024 (26/02/2024)

The 7-day National Service Scheme (NSS) special camp at Annai Veilankanni’s College for Women, Saidapet, was inaugurated by Dr. S. Devaraj, Founder and Chairman of Annai Veilankanni’s Group of Educational Institutions. The camp included various health and awareness programs such as eye, ear, and dental check-ups, along with sessions on kidney disease prevention, cyber etiquette, and women’s safety. NSS volunteers also organized competitions, tree plantation, campus clean-ups, and fun activities for school children. Volunteers participated in a Polio Drops camp in Ekkathuthangal, ensuring vaccination for young children. The camp concluded with a feedback session, providing valuable insights for future initiatives.

MEGA TREE PLANTATION DRIVE (27/07/2023)

On 27th July 2023, a Mega Tree Plantation Drive was organized to commemorate the 8th Anniversary of former President Dr. A.P.J. Abdul Kalam, in collaboration with the Devi Social & Education Foundation, Tamil Nadu Forest Department, and Greater Chennai Corporation. The event was initiated by the NSS Unit I & II and began with a welcome speech by Dr. D. Dev Anand, Secretary of Annai Veilankanni’s Group of Educational Institutions. Dr. S. Devaraj, Chairman of the institution, delivered the presidential address, emphasizing the importance of trees in combating global warming and producing oxygen. Actor Vishal, Founder of the Devi Foundation, inaugurated the plantation by planting the first tree. A total of 150 trees were planted across the Saidapet and Nedungundram campuses, leaving everyone proud of their contribution to nature.

AANIYA PUDUNGUVOM (07/30/2023)

On July 30, 2023, a program was organized in collaboration with Blacksheep Radio to observe National Tree Day, aimed at raising awareness among students about the harmful effects of nails on trees. The Guest of Honour, Director Mr. Srinivasan, explained how nails can harm trees by creating wounds that allow bacteria and fungi to enter, or by blocking the flow of nutrients between the roots and canopy. He highlighted that nails do not allow trees to heal properly, leaving them vulnerable to further damage. NSS students participated in the event and were awarded certificates for their involvement.
