Student Ethics and Discipline Policy
The Student Ethics and Discipline Policy sets clear expectations for responsible behavior, academic honesty, and mutual respect. Students are encouraged to uphold discipline, follow institutional rules, and maintain a positive learning environment. The policy fosters personal responsibility, ethical conduct, and social awareness. It aims to shape students into responsible and ethical citizens.
The policy emphasizes punctuality, respect for faculty and staff, and adherence to academic and administrative regulations. Students are expected to maintain decorum within the campus and actively contribute to a culture of harmony and inclusiveness. It also promotes awareness of social responsibility, civic sense, and ethical values. Through guidance and counseling, the institution supports students in maintaining discipline and personal development.
Student Code of Conduct
Annai Velankanni’s College of Arts & Science
Students are required to follow the rules and code of conduct framed by the College authorities. Every student shall maintain decorum at all times.
General Guidelines
- Compulsorily wear ID card on campus; duplicate ID card available for Rs.50/- if lost.
- Mobile phones are not allowed on campus.
- Political activities that harm the dignity of the college are prohibited.
- Misconduct on social media, public spaces, or during commute will attract strict action.
- No meetings, collection of money, distribution of materials, or display of banners without prior written permission.
- Tampering with ID cards, library materials, or transport passes will lead to strict action.
- Minimum 85% attendance is required for University exams and participation in curricular activities.
- Update any changes in parent contact details with the Department.
- Two-wheeler users must have a valid driving license; four-wheelers are not permitted.
- Obtain prior permission for leave; longer leave requires HOD approval.
- Report accidents, chronic illness, or extended medical leave to the Principal.
- Maintain courteous behavior towards teachers and authorities.
- Damage to college property will attract disciplinary action and repair costs will be borne by the offender.
- Unlawful activities or disruption on campus may lead to expulsion; possession of narcotics, alcohol, weapons, or harmful substances is strictly prohibited.
- College authorities may frame or modify rules to maintain discipline and reputation; their decisions are final.
Ragging
Ragging is strictly prohibited. Complaints can be submitted via the Complaint Box near the Principal’s Office. Punishment will be as per the Tamil Nadu Prohibition of Ragging Act and UGC guidelines.
Examples of Ragging
- Teasing, treating, or handling a fresher or any student with rudeness.
- Rowdism or indiscipline causing fear, hardship, or harm to students.
- Forcing students to act against their will, causing shame or embarrassment.
- Disrupting regular academic activities of other students.
- Exploiting fresher or other students for academic tasks.
- Financial extortion or forcing unnecessary expenditure on others.
- Physical abuse, including sexual or other harmful acts.
- Verbal, electronic, or public abuse causing mental distress.
- Acts affecting mental health and self-confidence of students.
UGC Recommendation: If a ragging incident is reported, the concerned student will be given an opportunity to explain. If unsatisfactory, expulsion may follow.
